Raglan Surf Life Saving Club is proud to have a dedicated Search and Rescue (SAR) Squad, made up of highly skilled and experienced Surf Lifeguards who are ready to respond to emergencies on a callout basis throughout the year during daylight hours.
Our SAR team is trained to handle a wide range of incidents, from swimmers and surfers caught in rips, to kitesurfers stranded on the Raglan Bar, and first aid emergencies along the coastline. Working closely with Surf Life Saving NZ, Police, and Coastguard, the Raglan squad provides vital response capability both at Ngarunui Beach and across the wider west coast.
The team is frequently called to assist at remote and challenging locations such as Ruapuke Beach and Marokopa, where a quick response can be life or death.
In recognition of their professionalism and commitment, the Raglan SLSC SAR Squad received the 2024 Operational Gold Award, (the highest honour presented by New Zealand Search and Rescue) for the rescue of three people on the Raglan Bar in December 2024.
